What is a golf range?

A golf range, or driving range, is where you hit ball after ball from a fixed bay towards marked distances. There are no holes and no card to fill in. It is practice, and it is the cheapest golf there is: you pay for range time or for a basket of balls instead of a green fee. What separates one range from another is mostly the tee you hit from and how late in the year it stays open, because a covered and heated bay is still usable long after the grass tees have shut.
